Notts Academy all-rounder Connor Marshall and former first team player Josh Mierkalns were among a number of Midlands cricketers to attend a Level 2 coaching course at Trent Bridge this week.
The four-day course, organised by the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA), is the latest of a series that have been run around the country in the last two years.
It was led by the Nottinghamshire Cricket Board’s Cricket Development Officer – Workforce, Alan Harrison.
The condensed course was aimed mainly at professionals, allowing them to complete elements in a short period of time before returning to pre-season training or going abroad.
“We covered a wide variety of coaching aspects, particularly about how to go about coaching children of all ages,” said Marshall.

“They’ve been really engaging and enjoyable sessions, and it’s great to be doing it with guys who you see through the course of a season. You can pick up and share ideas.
“The PCA actively encourage players to get involved in something outside of their cricket and this is something I will be able to use during the winters, but also in the long-term.”
Other players to take part included Jack Shantry and Ben Twohig (both Worcestershire) and Tim Ambrose and Henry Brookes (both Warwickshire).
Notts’ left-arm seamer, Mark Footitt, successfully completed a similar course at Edgbaston last year.
