The Trent Bridge Community Trust is proud to launch a new project, Forget Me Notts, that aims to provide a social opportunity for people living with dementia and their carers across Nottingham.
Forget Me Notts will be a monthly dementia social group, supported by Age UK and the Alzheimer's Society that will start on Monday 12 June with an open session.
Anyone is welcome to attend the group, which will take place between 11:30am and 1:30pm in the Radcliffe Road Stand, in suites 1 to 3, with parking available in the Trent Bridge Inn Courtyard.
Following the first meeting in June, the group will take place on a Tuesday at the same time on the following dates: 25 July, 15 August, 12 September, 24 October, 28 November, 19 December and 30 January 2018.
"The chance to reminisce, interact and be active are all intended to give our attendees a fulfilling session."
Tim Eatherington, Trustee
"The Trust has a commitment to provide facilities and activities for those needing them, with the objective of improving their condition of life," said Trustee Tim Eatherington.
"We recognise that our local community includes those living with dementia and we want to provide this particular opportunity for them and their carers to enjoy social interaction and activities tailored to suit their specific requirements.
"We are keen to open the gates of Trent Bridge and welcome members of our community who feel they can benefit from our meetings, supported with professional advice from Age UK and the Alzheimer's Society.
"Above all else we hope that they feel safe and relaxed in our company and that by having Dementia Friends Aware volunteers on site so that we can provide the perfect atmosphere for them.
"The chance to reminisce, interact and be active is all intended to give our attendees a fulfilling session."
The sessions will include board games, a chance to reminisce and get active, listening to music, guest speakers and external providers to support the interests of the group.
It is hoped that the content of future sessions will be altered for the preferences of those who attend.
Age UK are set to support the sessions with advice, support and an opportunity to create memory books.
Club volunteers who have attended Dementia Friends Awareness will also be on hand to support the sessions.
Funding for the social group has been secured from a number of local charities and organisations including the Trent Bridge Taverners, Rushcliffe CCG, the Sir John Eastwood Foundation, the Thoresby Charitable Trust, GT Littlefair Trust Fund and the Nottingham Rotary Club.
