In excess of 100 thrill-seeking fundraisers, with Nottinghamshire all-rounder Steven Mullaney amongst them, took the Zip Wire Challenge at Trent Bridge on Sunday.
The event, which was brought to the city in partnership with Nottingham Building Society, saw participants raise thousands of pounds for the Trent Bridge Community Trust, whose remit is to make life better for disadvantaged young people throughout the county.
Participants began their descent across the world’s oldest Test Match venue from 25 metres high above the Trent Bridge Inn Courtyard.
Travelling 190 metres at up to 40 miles-per-hour, the landing point for participants was in front of the Fox Road Stand.
"It's a great cause and hopefully we can bring in a lot of money,” said Mullaney.
“I'd never done anything like this before and I was really nervous, but it was actually good fun.
“It was a bit scary up the top when the wind got hold of the cage, but there was a fantastic view all over Nottingham."
Nottinghamshire Commercial Director Justin Tose, who also took the challenge, hopes there will be further opportunities to zip wire Trent Bridge in the future.
“It was definitely nerve racking being up there on the crane waiting for my turn, so congratulations to everyone for hanging in there and taking part for a great cause, and it was really good fun in the end,” he said.
“With this event following on from the Evening With the Broad’s charity dinner earlier this summer, a precedent has been set for high quality fundraising events, which we’ll be looking to continue into the future.
“The dinner raised in excess of £10,000 and, once all sponsorship money is collected, the zip wire should reach a similar figure, so events like this really do make a difference.
"I'd like to thank Nottingham Building Society for partnering with us on bringing the zip wire to Trent Bridge. Without their involvement, the event would not have been possible."
Nottingham Building Society’s Partnership and Sponsorships Manager, Vicky Hall, added: “Nottingham Building Society was delighted to support the Zip Wire Challenge at Trent Bridge.
“A number of our staff bravely participated on the day, helping to raise money for such a good cause.”
