The NatWest T20 Blast looks set to be an all-sensory experience, and that includes a pulsing tournament soundtrack. Notts Outlaws’ official summer anthem is Ashes by Embrace – definitely a 'proper' tune for such an occasion. Powerful, yet respectable.
But that got me wondering – what sort of music would various Notts Outlaws select if they could all have their own theme tune when they walked to the middle or were brought on to bowl?
After all, you've got to get this right. Sometimes in the world of sport, players have been known to make... interesting choices when given control of the stadium sound system.
For example this year in the US, Pittsburgh Pirates backup catcher Tony Sanchez made news by choosing Disney's 'Let It Go' as the song that plays every time he goes out to bat. If you are unfamiliar with 'Let It Go', that probably means you don't live in a house with a young girl. If you do know it, you might not consider the biggest song from princess blockbuster Frozen to necessarily be a top tune for striking fear into the hearts of the opposition.
So what makes a good song? A big guitar riff or menacing intro doesn't hurt – think early AC/DC or Metallica's Enter Sandman. The more classically minded cricketer might want to look to Wagner and fly into bat via the Flight of the Valkyries.
Our dressing room poll revealed varied musical tastes, from lads who never left the glory days of the 1990s to rockers who want it cranked up to 11, rather than batting at number 11.
And no, James Taylor would not want to walk out to any James Taylor.
Michael Lumb
“Can I have two? Rock n' Roll Star because I'm just a big Oasis fan. Or Black Thumbnail by Kings of Leon because it's just a bit more angry. It gets you going a bit.”
Steven Mullaney
“Probably Don't You Worry Child by Swedish House Mafia, its catchy and I’m a fan.”
Sam Wood
“Can I have Animals by Martin Garrix? If you're just playing the start of a song, the start of that song's all right, isn't it.”
Riki Wessels
“I'm a big rocker, so I’m going for Linkin Park – In The End. Really loud.”
James Taylor:
“I’m the Man by Aloe Blacc. Why? It tells me that I'm the man.”
