Nottinghamshire seamer Harry Gurney hailed the Outlaws’ victory at home against Derbyshire Falcons as one of their best yet.
“A win against the local rivals is always a bit special,” he said.
“The crowd were really behind us and we needed the points so it was a huge relief and great feeling at the end of the game.”
Three wins in seven days has boosted the Notts dressing room, which Gurney admits has given the team a lift.
“It’s been a really great week for the team,” said Gurney.
“The win in the Championship was desperately needed and to win that in the way we did, definitely gave us momentum going into these back to back fixtures.”
In front of a home crowd of 9383, the Outlaws followed up their record breaking win the night before with an equally thrilling display of Friday night cricket.
Gurney singled out Nott’s star batsman Riki Wessles’ efforts for praise.
“It’s been Riki’s week,” he said.
“His performances on Thursday and Friday were absolutely mind-blowing; some of his ball striking was unbelievable. He can read the ball so well, he’s scoring sixes for fun right now.”
Gurney also commended the performance of fellow bowler Luke Fletcher who claimed two wickets to stall Derbyshire’s efforts.
“Fletch was hungry for wickets tonight and he bowled some of the best balls I’ve ever seen him produce,” said Gurney.
“This week has really shown how well this team work individually and together and Fletch’s bowling tonight was a prime example of that.
“As a team we are really strong in the field and as a bowler that gives you a lot of confidence throughout the over.”
After a successful week of fixtures, Gurney admits Trent Bridge is a happy place to be but the players are all too aware that they can’t rest on their laurels just yet.
“We’ll definitely have a celebration tonight,” he said.
“I think we deserve it but everyone has their eye firmly on the next task. We need another championship win and by the time Sunday comes round we’ll be more than ready to take on Somerset at home. This streak of wins is just what we needed and now its our job to make sure it continues.”
