Fast bowler AJ Harris is aiming to end his benefit year in pursuit of an LV County Championship Division Two Winners Medal with Worcestershire.
His adopted side have a 16-point lead at the top with two games to play and despite his commitment to his benefit year events, Harris’s primary concern has been to play first-class cricket.
“It’s been a busy year for me and an immense challenge to put together a benefit year and to travel round the country playing first-class cricket,” said Harris, who will keep the gate receipts from the Outlaws’ climactic NatWest Pro40 decider against Sussex Sharks on Sunday.
“We’ve had some very positive responses from those that have attended our events and my committee have worked tirelessly to ensure that everyone who attends enjoys good value for money.
“The fact that Notts are challenging shows the progression of the side and it looks as though we’re in with a chance of winning it this year. Obviously I’ve been away on loan but I’ve been ready to step in if there were any injuries.”
Having spent nine seasons at Trent Bridge, Harris cites Nottinghamshire’s 2005 Championship win as the highlight of his career but he still harbours ambitions in the professional game.
“The best memory was winning the Championship in 2005 and I took the accolades when I took six wickets on that final afternoon in Kent but it was the efforts of the whole club that won it,” said Harris.
“Playing for England ‘A’ was an honour but winning the Championship after a year of hard work was the highlight.
“I’ve had nine thoroughly enjoyable seasons and players, members and staff have been thoroughly supportive. It would be great to sign off watching Notts winning the NatWest Pro40 and the LV County Championship.
“I made the decision to go out on loan because I want to play first class cricket for at least two more years. I’ve got an opportunity to win a Second Division Championship medal with Worcestershire but it’s quite tight at the moment.”
