Awaiting Nottinghamshire First-Class debut

Big-hitting all-rounder Sams has developed into an experienced T20 globetrotter, with a CV that includes Australia’s Big Bash League, the Indian Premier League, the Pakistan Super League, and The Hundred, as well as a previous stint in the Vitality Blast with Essex.

Something of a late bloomer, he did not make his professional debut until the age of 25, but returned figures of 4/14 in his very first match, for Sydney Thunder against cross-town rivals Sydney Sixers, to catapult himself to household name status.

Sams was called upon by Delhi Capitals for the 2020 IPL, and also made his Australia debut before the year was out, registering megastar India skipper Virat Kohli as his first international wicket.

He was signed by Essex ahead of the 2022 season and helped the Eagles reach the Blast knockout stages in two of his three seasons, totalling 617 runs and 46 wickets during his time in Chelmsford.

That record included a run to the 2023 final, a season in which he finished as the club’s leading run-scorer and wicket-taker, and he also has past experience of playing at Trent Bridge, having made 16 appearances for Trent Rockets, including during the 2022 title-winning season.
