Nottinghamshire First Class Debut – 1 August 2020 v Derbyshire (Trent Bridge)
Hameed was the first new face to arrive at Trent Bridge in the winter of 2019, with his talent and temperament catching the eye of Head Coach Peter Moores.
And the Bolton-born opener settled into his new surroundings with ease, hitting two half-centuries in his maiden First-Class fixture for the county against Derbyshire.
In total, Hameed made three fifties in his first season with the county, and began to forge a strong opening partnership with Ben Slater.
Prior to his arrival at Trent Bridge, Hameed enjoyed a remarkable first full season in First-Class cricket in 2016, scoring over 1,000 County Championship runs for Lancashire – the fifth-youngest player to reach the landmark in a season.
This tally included a redoubtable 122 at Trent Bridge against an attack which included Stuart Broad and Imran Tahir, helping the then-teenager to earn his elevation into the England setup.
Hameed’s first Test assignment was as opening partner to Alistair Cook in the pressure cooker environment of a tour of India, but the right-hander immediately proved up to the task, hitting 82 in his second innings at the highest level.
A fractured finger in the Third Test of that series would force Hameed to bat with the tail in Mohali, but the Lancastrian was still able to hit a defiant unbeaten 59 from 156 balls.
