Ben Phillips had to endure the frustration of an injury-ridden start to his first season at Trent Bridge. Joining Notts as a 36-year old, after a successful period at Somerset, Ben looked set to have an early opportunity with his new county before turning an ankle just before the side were due to leave for Abu Dhabi to face the MCC in the champion county match.

Missing out, he had to wait for his opportunity in four-day cricket, although excelled when the chance came.

Against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge, Ben shared in a brutal stand of 114 in just 16.2 overs with Andre Adams, that not only rescued Notts from a seemingly hopeless position but also contained some of the cleanest and biggest hitting the ground has ever witnessed.

Ben’s share was an unbeaten 71 in what proved to be his only championship outing of the summer.
In one-day cricket he featured more regularly, often chipping in with useful wickets with his lively right-arm fast-medium bowling. Ben also played in four of the Twenty20 group matches, a year after playing in the Final with his former county.

Figures of 2-23 helped Nottinghamshire’s second string to some silverware in 2011, in the victory over Lancashire in the final of the Second Eleven Trophy.
