Carter took wickets at will for Bracebridge Heath in the Lincolnshire Premier League in 2007, topping the bowling averages and enjoying a career-best haul of 8-67.

Having been plucked from the Lincolnshire setup and awarded a short-term deal in April 2008, Carter impressed sufficiently to win an extended stay at Trent Bridge.

He honed his raw pace in the Second Eleven in 2009 and took a club record 54 wickets to underline the rate of his development and his achievements didn’t go unnoticed and he made his LV= County Championship debut and registered six appearances in the NatWest Pro40.
