A crucial member of the Trent Bridge coaching hierarchy, Ant Botha takes primary responsibility to develop Nottinghamshire’s batters and spin bowlers.

A former all-rounder himself who made 137 First-Class appearances during his playing career, he moved to Trent Bridge towards the end of 2016 to join Peter Moores’ backroom team.

Born in Pretoria, the capital of South Africa, Botha turned to coaching after an elbow injury forced him into early retirement in 2011.

Apart from appearances in his homeland, he spent long periods in the county game with stints at both Derbyshire and Warwickshire, briefly serving as the Bears’ captain.

Botha was an ambidextrous operator, and in First-Class cricket scored 4,403 runs, including four centuries, as a right-hander and claimed 307 wickets with his left-arm orthodox spin.

Having also played in 149 List A and 72 T20 contests, he moved into coaching following his retirement, beginning with a role in Adelaide in Australia.

He returned to the county game as part of the backroom set-up at Derbyshire, before making the short switch to Trent Bridge, initially having a spell as Second XI Coach.

During that time, the side progressed to T20 Finals Day in 2019, with Liam Patterson-White, among others, making the transition into the first team setup under Botha’s guidance.

In 2021, he added to his experience by being named as a member of the coaching staff on England's tour of Australia for the 2021/22 Ashes series.

Working alongside Moores, Botha has been part of a backroom team that have helped bring no fewer than five pieces of silverware across all three formats to Trent Bridge, including, in 2025, the club’s first County Championship title in 15 years.
