ANNUAL REPORT 2019

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET CLUB 2019 ANNUAL REPORT & ACCOUNTS 62 coming season with great anticipa- tion. It was a tremendous honour to be President of a club that was per- ceived to be one of the best run of all the counties – an acknowledgement that was something to be proud of. 11. TO APPOINT TWO VICE- PRESIDENTS The Chairman was delighted to announce the General Committee’s recommendation to appoint two newVice-Presidents for 2019, a decision wholeheartedly approved of by the members in attendance. Paul Johnson made his debut as a batsman in a John Player Sunday League match againstWarwickshire at Edgbaston in August 1981. He captained Nottinghamshire from 1996 to 1998, retiring from First Class Cricket in 2002. He was a member of the club’s coaching staff until 2016. A popular, Newark-born player, Paul became famous for his fast-scoring. Born in Paignton, Devon, Chris Read joined Nottinghamshire from Gloucestershire in 1998, making his debut against Durham at Trent Bridge in May that season. A bats- man/wicketkeeper, he was capped by England in 1999 and appeared in 15Test Matches and 36 One-Day Internationals. He retired as captain of Nottinghamshire in 2017 after ten seasons, during which time he led the county to the Championship in 2010 and to a triumphant Royal London One-Day Cup Final in 2017. 12. TO APPOINT AUDITORS FOR THE CLUB The appointment of Smith Cooper as the auditors for 2019 was formally proposed by clubTreasurer Mr P J Ellis, seconded by Mr BWells and unanimously approved by those present. 13. ANY OTHER BUSINESS Cllr Mrs Christine Jeffreys, Deputy Mayor of Rushcliffe, wished to draw the members’ attention to the mar- vellous employees who worked at Trent Bridge. Remarking that from the moment supporters entered the ground they were treated with kindness, consideration and cour- tesy, which she believed was quite unique. She said a big thank you to all the workers who were so often taken for granted. Ms D M Peasey remarked that it would have been wonderful during aWorld Cup year to have theWorld War memorabilia visible to visitors. She would like to see the develop- ment of a museum to display the extensive archives the club had in its possession. Mr P J Ellis stated that, following the formation by David Beaumont of a HeritageWorking Group five years previously, a tremendous amount of work had been under- taken by Heritage Officer Steve LeMottee and his volunteers. He assured Ms Peasey that displays and events would be scheduled through- out the season. However, it was important that any scheme for a museum should be properly considered. As with many development plans, the provision of a museum was hampered because of the small footprint of the ground. In answer to a question from Mr C Noblett, Ms Pursehouse reported that freeWiFi was currently being installed around the ground. This would be a legacy forTrent Bridge thanks to theWorld Cup. Supporters would also be able to livestream matches during the season. Mr P Quinn had been studying the Sport England governance code and understood that committee members would have to resign after nine years service. That being the case, he pointed out that most of the current committee would have to stand down in the next few years. In acknowledging that remark, the Chairman stated that Notting- hamshire would have to meet the required standards for good govern- ance set by the ECB, as would all the other counties. This point would be considered as part of the club’s review of its existing governance. Mr D J Beaumont was concerned about the future of the Notting- hamshireYearbook, asking why the decision had been taken not to publish this traditional handbook. Mr Tennant stated that, unfortu- nately, it was a question of cost and declining take-up which made it financially impractical to produce as well as labour intensive. However, this decision might be reviewed at a later date. Ms Pursehouse remarked that in January the club had been approa- ched by a number of members from the Cricket Lovers who wanted to produce it themselves. All members would be informed of this in due course. Mr Beaumont confirmed that the publication – to be produced by PeterWynne-Thomas, Bill Russell, Michael Goulder and himself – would consist of 160 pages and cost £5. Mr M Griffiths requested that recreational game information and statistics be included in the hand- book in future. Mr J A Evans asked what the position was with sponsorsYu Energy? Ms Pursehouse stated that the company had been a partner for a number of years and had now signed a three-year sponsorship agreement with the club. The Fox Road stand had been re-named the Yu Energy stand. As there was no further business in the published agenda, the Chairman thanked the members for their attendance and closed the meeting at 9.29 pm.
