MATTERS ARISING There were no matters arising. 4. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT Mr Tennant noted that in his report the previous year, when comparing the 2015 season to 2016, he had made the comment ‘what a difference a year makes’. Well, he felt, he could do no better than to start this year’s report with the same comment – ‘what a difference a year makes!’ Success on the field in all three forms of the game was a wonderful repost of the team’s performances the previous season. The contribution by senior players, lacking in 2016, was immense. First was the Royal London One- Day Cup Final at Lord’s where Alex Hales with 187 not out and Chris Read with 58 not out steered them to victory. Success at NatWestT20 Blast Finals Day came next and Samit Patel’s and Brendon Taylor’s stand of 132, followed up by some great bowling by Harry Gurney, gave the team its second white ball trophy. Finally, the one that mattered most, was promotion back to Division One. Mr Tennant stated that it would have been nice to have been able to say it was straightforward, but it went right down to the wire with a drawn last game of the season against Sussex where Chris Read and Billy Root both scored centuries to give them the needed draw for promotion – not to forget Harry Gurney’s knock. He felt it was a great way for Club Captain Chris Read to hang up his boots, having achieved so much over the years. He had been an outstanding Captain and everyone wished him well for the future. Performances off the field had also been rewarded – and Lisa Pursehouse’s award of an MBE was M I NU T E S O F T H E ANNUAL GENERAL MEET ING Held in the Assembly Hall, County Hall, on Monday 26 February 2018
