Trent Bridge Annual Report 2018

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET CLUB 2018 ANNUAL REPORT & ACCOUNTS 20 • Pedometer challenge • Nutrition The project would utilise the power of sport and Trent Bridge to bring the teachings to life and help engage young people in an important topic for life. Members were then given the opportunity of raising any questions they might have. 8. ELECTION OF FOUR MEMBERS TO THE GENERAL COMMITTEE The Chief Executive reported that with the retirement of Mr Bill Taylor and the receipt of six nominations for membership of the General Committee, a ballot had taken place resulting in the election of Mr Richard Stevenson, along with the three standing members. Therefore, the members for the following three-year term were as follows: Mr Darren Bicknell, Mr Ray Dawson, Mr Richard Stevenson and Mr Richard Tennant. 9. TO APPOINT A PRESIDENT FOR 2018 Mr Tennant commended Peter Wynne-Thomas who had done a wonderful job representing the Club during his two-year tenure as President - he was, and still continued to be, a great asset to Trent Bridge. Mr Wynne-Thomas thanked the Chairman, Committee and everybody for making his term as President so enjoyable. On the recommendation of the General Committee, Mr Tennant proposed Bill Taylor as President for the coming year. In thanking the Chairman, Mr Taylor commented that, looking around the room, he was pleased to see there were still a few members old enough to remember where he had come from! He reminisced that he had arrived at Trent Bridge on a week’s trial in 1970, to be met by Reg Simpson who asked him if he really wanted to play First-Class cricket, and how did he keep trim in the winter? Mr Taylor had answered that yes, he did want to play First-Class cricket and he kept fit by training with Sale Rugby Club players at the YMCA. More importantly, Reg wanted to know what he was like with a bat! Mr Taylor thanked the Committee for inviting him to become President, which was a great honour. 10. TO APPOINT HONOURARY LIFE MEMBERS Members at an Annual General Meeting may, on the recommendation of the General Committee, elect as Vice- Presidents or Honorary Life Members any individuals who had given outstanding service to cricket in Nottinghamshire. Mr Tennant believed that the election to such positions was not to be done lightly and should be considered a great honour bestowed by the Club. The Committee would not necessarily recommend someone every year, and although it was aware that there were many individuals who contributed a significant amount to the game, it was important to ensure the integrity of the award so that the recipient may appreciate the recognition. In 2018 the decision had been taken to recommend to the meeting, two individuals for Honorary Life membership who had spent a considerable part of their lives working for the recreational game in the County. Richard Martin had been Secretary of the Bassetlaw & District Cricket League and had served on their Committee for over 30 years. He also served on the Recreational Council, and was the Bassetlaw representative on the Board of the Premier League, as well as on the Committee of the League Cricket Conference, where he was Deputy Chairman for four years. He also umpired in the Bassetlaw League and was currently President of Edwinstowe Cricket Club. David Richards was Secretary of the Gunn & Moore South Notts Cricket League for many years, was Secretary of the Newark Junior Cricket League, served on the Recreational Council, was the South Notts Cricket League representative on the Board of the Premier League, and currently served on the League Cricket Conference. He was also a driving force at Kinoulton Cricket Club. Both individuals in the General Committee’s view had given outstanding service to cricket in Nottinghamshire. On the proposition of Mr M Griffiths and seconded by Mr S B Hassan, it was unanimously agreed by the members that their appointment as Honorary Life members be approved. Mr Richards was currently away in Australia, but Mr Martin responded for both of them by saying that it was a great honour to be recognised in such a way. On his own part, Mr Martin stated that it had been a great pleasure being involved in cricket in the county since 1974. 11. TO APPOINT AUDITORS FOR THE CLUB The appointment of Smith Cooper as the auditors for 2018 was formally proposed by Club Treasurer Mr P J Ellis, seconded by Mr P Ford-Murphy and unanimously approved by those present. 12. ANY OTHER BUSINESS As there was no further business in the published agenda, the Chairman thanked the Members for their attendance and closed the meeting at 8.34 pm.
