TRUST IMPACT REPORT 2023

16 NOT TI NGHAM S H I R E COUNT Y CR I CK E T C LUB health & wellbeing Over 380 people attended the Trust’s health and well- being programmes across 2023, including the Forget Me Notts dementia initiative, Notts in Mind mental wellbeing initiative andWeight Management Project - a 12-week programme designed to help participants lose weight and make sustainable changes. Among the first attendees of theWeight Management Project was Kelli, who - thanks to the support of Trust staff working on the programme - rediscovered her love for an active lifestyle and took a keen interest in badminton and boxercise. Kelli has so far lost 10.5lbs on her journey and has since transitioned to a longer- term weight loss programme. Alongside Kelli, a total of 197 participants took part in theWeight Management Programme across 36 weeks, with 74 (38%) of them attending at least nine of the 12 sessions and 48 (24%) achieving 5% weight-loss by the end of their 12-week programme. However, 12 weeks is not a long time in the world of weight management; the key to longer-term sustaina- bility is to affect changes in people’s behaviour. This impact was keenly demonstrated by Lucy from our Southglade Programme, who said: “Without the programme and support from Callum and Helen I certainly wouldn’t be doing the continued exercise, and I definitely wouldn’t be thinking so much about what I am eating and the impact it has on my health and body. This really is an excellent programme.” Our role in facilitating change is to structure a pro- gramme to engage and retain participants, giving them the best possible chance of achieving their goals. With a subject as sensitive as weight loss, it was imperative we approached this with enthusiasm, empathy and understanding. Our success in achieving this was quickly evident, with 90% of programme participants rating the delivery 4 out of 5 or higher and 93% rating the delivery team 5 out of 5.This ability to build a rapport and understand the needs of people is what the Trust prides itself on across all our wellbeing programmes. “THE SESSIONS GAVE ME A FOCUS AND STRUCTURE TO MANAGING WEIGHT LOSS. IT DID IT IN A WAY WHICH WAS ENJOYABLE, WAS DELIVERED WITHOUT BEING PATRONISING AND ABOVE ALL WAS DRIVEN BY PEOPLE WHO CLEARLY HAD GREAT ENTHUSIASM FOR HELPING OTHERS TO IMPROVE THEIR HEALTH AND FITNESS, MENTAL WELLBEING AND SELF- IMAGE.” Michael (Harvey Hadden Programme). Another key element of the programme is the support offered to carers. All our sessions offer the opportunity for carers to engage with each other and talk about their experiences while knowing their loved ones are safely taking part in activities. “TO HAVE AN HOUR WHERE YOU KNOW YOUR LOVED ONE IS IN A SAFE PLACE, AND WHEN YOU CAN CHAT WITH OTHER CARERS WHO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU’RE GOING THROUGH, IS INVALUABLE.” Forget Me Notts attendee A proud accomplishment of the Trust has been to secure the future of Forget Me Notts for another two years. The #Donate4Dementia campaign was launched in March 2023 to safeguard the array of stimulating activities and events offered by the programme for individuals living with dementia, as its previous funding cycle came to a close. The fundraising finale was the Zipwire Challenge in July, where over 90 brave souls took on the 40-mile- per-hour thrill-ride above the iconic Trent Bridge turf, raising £31,504 in the process. In Cotgrave, our work to support people facing difficulties managing their mental wellbeing led to the delivery of Notts in Mind:Women. This programme endeavours to support participants to increase self esteem, build confidence, improve fitness levels and develop support networks. Attendees take part in various activities, ranging from mindfulness and breathing exercises to goal-setting and overcoming obstacles. In total, 15 women have benefited from their involvement in the programme and with funding continuing into 2024 we look forward to supporting more women in the coming months. We have been tremendously thankful for the many generous donations we have received over the course of the year, and we were delighted to reach a stunning 1,000 individual donations to our mental health programmes by late November. These donations, alongside the support from our partner organisations such as Rushcliffe Borough Council, Edwalton Golf Centre and Rushcliffe Dementia Action Network, are vital to the work we do as we strive to increase our support for people in our communities.
