2023 ANNUAL REPORT
21 CRICKET REPORT worthy of particular praise in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, without showing the necessary consistency as a side to challenge for the title. As a general theme, we lacked the runs from the top order to make us truly competitive, and that is an area we must improve on in order to be successful. We arguably peaked in our first game - a comprehensive victory over Essex - before witnessing a special individual performance from Matt Montgomery at Kent; a calm and calculated innings to see us over the line in the last over with one wicket remaining. Liam Patterson-White, Lyndon James andTom Loten all also impressed and embraced the opportunities they were given as senior players with that side. The carrot of a home final remains as strong as ever - and whilst player availability dictates the strength of the team, we are determined to compete at the business end of the competition regardless. It is in this competition that our youngest crop often get their first opportunities in the first team, having progressed through our Academy and player pathway. Freddie McCann has become the latest graduate to be offered a professional contract, extending our proud record of developing players within. In the three year period between 2019 and 2022 - a timespan for which the most recent set of data is available - seven of our 13 Academy graduates have won professional contracts. That percentage of 53.8% compares favourably to a 41.9% average across all First- Class Counties. Of those, 30.8% have since played 10 or more first team matches, compared to an average of 19.4% nationally (see table below) . These numbers serve as a reminder that Nottinghamshire, while not the largest of counties when it comes to “JOE CLARKE HAS PLAYED FRANCHISE CRICKET AROUND THE WORLD, LEARNING FROM OTHERS AND ABOUT HIS OWN GAME, AND HAS THE CHARACTER TO BRING THOSE IN THE DRESSING ROOM ALONG WITH HIM ON THE JOURNEY.” Mick Newell GRADUATING 2019TO 2022 ACADEMY GRADUATES WINNING PRO CONTRACTS %OF GRADUATES WINNINGPRO CONTRACTS PLAYED 10+ FIRSTXI MATCHES %OFGRADUATES PLAYING 10+ FIRSTXI MATCHES GRADUATES WITHENGLAND CAPS (U19s &ABOVE) OVERALL 258 108 41.9% 50 19.4% 54 AVERAGE 14.3 6 41.9% 2.8 19.4% 3 RANGE 8 – 23 3 – 10 21.7% – 66.7% 0 – 7 0% – 43.8% 0 – 8 NOTTS 13 7 53.8% 4 30.8% 3
