2021 ANNUAL REPORT

19 COMMUNITY REPORT Nottingham Gymnastics has proven particularly fruitful, with simple seated movements helping to main- tain cognitive stimulation and slow any decline in function. Plans are afoot for each of these initiatives to grow further in the coming year – from the establish- ment of a forum for carers at Forget Me Notts to the return of school- children to our venue via the Trent Bridge Classroom programme. With Rushcliffe Borough Council funding in place until December 2024, the Trust’s position at the heart of the community is assured for the foreseeable future. The proud and illustrious history of our home continues to be celebrated thanks to the work of our 40-strong heritage team. As spectators returned toTrent Bridge, the team staged an exhibition that belatedly celebrated Stuart Broad’s 500thTest wicket. Meanwhile, matchday talks com- memorating the 250th anniversary of the first recorded cricket match in Nottinghamshire and the 150th anniversary of WG Grace’s first appearance at Trent Bridge were popular and well attended. The ‘Cricket & Covid’ project continued to record the pandemic’s impact on the professional and rec- reational game, while the team began to formulate plans to document the heritage of women’s cricket. This work also became increasingly future-proofed with the continued expansion of a digital archive. The history section of the Trent Bridge website has grown to become a cornucopia of news stories and pro- files, with in-depth interviews with former players in the pipeline. It is this latter work which, in a nutshell, encapsulates the approach of all who are united under our community banner: ever-present respect for our heritage married with a desire to innovate and grow. More Nottinghamshire residents are engaging with our sport and our venue than ever before. Our goal for 2022 is to continue that progress. “INITIALLY ESTABLISHED AS A MONTHLY EVENT, FORGET ME NOTTS NOW OPERATES WEEKLY, WITH SPORTS SESSIONS AND A REMINISCENCE CAFÉ CATERING FOR PEOPLE WITH DIFFERING NEEDS.” Tim Eatherington
