2020 ANNUAL REPORT
CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 9 measures we have taken this year, we are confident that the club can stage a recovery during the remainder of the four-year cycle and beyond. Cricket was, of course, a victim of the pandemic. The international season was delayed, four months of domestic cricket and the inaugural edition of The Hundred were lost, and the summer for our recreational clubs throughout the county was also dramatically affected. Ultimately, it was heartening that we were able to see any cricket at all, with the First-Class game being played in a conference-style format and a full Vitality Blast competition being held. Whilst we failed to produce the elusive red-ball victory we were all desperate to see, we did see a significant improvement by the end of the BobWillisTrophy tournament. Losses to Derbyshire andYorkshire were hard to take, not least as we were on top for most of those games. However, the subsequent performances of the team began to show that the hard work of our coaching staff and the players themselves was beginning to pay off. “WE WERE TRULY HUMBLED BY THE RESPONSE FROM OUR MEMBERS, AND MY SINCERE THANKS GO TO THOSE OF YOU WHO WERE ABLE TO CONTRIBUTE BY DONATING YOUR SUBSCRIPTIONS.” Richard Tennant
