Nottinghamshire's attack displayed resolve and were rewarded with two wickets on a truncated third day of action against Warwickshire in the Vitality County Championship, whi.

The hosts concluded proceedings 175/5, trailing by 225 ahead of the final day, after Dillon Pennington induced an edge from in-batter Ed Barnard late in the day to see the back of his former teammate for 69.

Dane Paterson got the other scalp - Dan Mousley the man to depart for having been trapped in front for 30 - while Olly Stone continued his return to first team action with a five over spell.

It was Barnard who rebuffed the visitors through a large part of the day, with 142 deliveries faced in his vigil, while Jacob Bethell offered equally stout resistance with an unbeaten 84-ball 38.

That action followed significant overnight rain in Birmingham which saw play only begin at 4pm, after an early tea had been taken.

Notts will return for the final day with five points so far accrued, and 51 overs remaining to garner more bowling bonus points.
