Welcome to the start of our 2013 review. Each of the next twelve weeks, we will be looking back on the biggest events, results and news from Trent Bridge, starting now, with January.

The biggest news of the month came on its penultimate day, with the announcement of David Hussey’s return to Nottinghamshire for an eighth summer. This followed the news that fellow Australian Adam Voges, occupying Notts’ overseas player berth in 2012, had signed up for a stint with Middlesex.

Hales:
Making a splash in the Big Bash

That isn’t to say that January had been a quiet month. Alex Hales and Michael Lumb faced off in Australia’s Big Bash t20 tournament, the former launching a colossal 89 off 52 for the Melbourne Renegades, before being caught by team-mate Lumb, representing the Sydney Sixers. The result meant that Lumb and the Sixers failed to qualify for the competition's semi-finals.

Lumb: Hot work

Samit Patel tasted glory with England, winning a One Day International with England in India for the first time in 11 attempts. Riki Wessels travelled too, this time to Bangladesh and the BPL.
