Nottinghamshire batsman Michael Lumb will jet off for his third overseas trip since the birth of his first child as Sydney Sixers look to retain their Big Bash title.

Lumb re-signed for the Australian Franchise when it became clear that Umar Akmal would only be available for the first three fixtures.

“I’ve got the Big Bash coming up but then it’s all about the county season and bringing trophies to Trent Bridge.”

His impending departure follows stints in Sri Lanka as part of England’s ICC World Twenty20 squad and South Africa where he claimed the Man of the Match award in the final of the Champions League after helping Sydney across the line.

“The Champions League is a great tournament because so many of the world’s best players are involved and we were delighted to come out on top,” said Lumb.

“It was difficult to leave my son so soon after he was born but I kept in touch through Skype.

“I’ve got the Big Bash coming up but then it’s all about the county season and bringing trophies to Trent Bridge.”

Lumb was a standout performer in his debut season, quickly eradicating any fears over the ankle injury that hampered his final months at Hampshire.

“The body feels good and I’ve had no trouble with my ankle since I have been with Nottinghamshire,” said Lumb.

“The move has worked out great for me and I couldn’t be happier.”
