The Academy failed to hold on to early chances given by the Kimberley opening batsmen Paldip Sidhu and Jon Terry which could have cost them dearly as the home side, who had been inserted ,scored 83 before Terry was leg before to Andrew Parkin-Coates for 48.

Sidhu was to go on and score 99 before being run out going for the second run which would have brought his hundred, a good throw from Dan Cumming preventing him from reaching the landmark.

Another slice of good fortune made up for the fielding lapses as Akhil Patel on 48, who looked to be in for a large score, was run out backing up as the bowler Adam Dobb deflected a return drive by Sidhu on to the stumps

Chasing 253 for victory Notts reached 79 before losing a wicket when Sam Wood was bowled for 38 but then Michael Robson was out next ball as first slip deflected the ball to wicket keeper Sam Ogrizovic.

Sam Kelsall was next to go for 64 lbw to Patel with the score on 137. Once more, he batted with his customary panache and calmness.

Ollie Swann (54 not out) and Tom Rowe (60 not out) then saw the Academy home with a century partnership for the fourth wicket made in 17 overs bringing victory with just under four overs remaining.
