Andre Adams spearheaded a winning start for Nottinghamshire in the first match of their LV= County Championship defence.

Adams began the day batting alongside Charlie Shreck and steered Notts beyond 300 with 2 sixes in his 37.

Hampshire’s top order crumbled in the face of hostile spells from Adams (6-31) with backup from Shreck (2-28) and Luke Fletcher (2-25) as the visitors crashed to 131 all out.

"Getting past 300 runs was our first target and we controlled the momentum of the match from that point," said Adams, whose match haull of 11-85 represented a career best.

"The key was to push home our lead and that's what we've done today. Winning the Championship is very hard to do but we won't rest on our laurels and we've made a good start."

Franks hooked to Friedel de Wet at long leg for 11 but Alex Hales and Mark Wagh steered Nottinghamshire to victory without any further disruption to surpass the second innings victory target of 23 with Wagh's four through midwicket.
