Andre Adams faces a late fitness test before a decision is taken as to whether he can feature in the Nottinghamshire side to face Durham at The Riverside.

Adams has been laid low with a virus but bowled in the nets on Monday and will travel with the squad before a decision is made.

Luke Fletcher, Darren Pattinson, Mark Ealham, Andy Carter and Charlie Shreck complete the seam options but two will miss out if Adams plays.

Scott Newman and Alex Hales will open the batting and Director of Cricket Mick Newell knows that a top order platform will be essential if Notts are to inflict Durham’s first defeat of the season.

“All of our batsmen are capable of scoring runs and they need to prove that in this match,” said Newell.

“We need big contributions from our top 7 because Harmison is very adept at knocking off tail-enders. Durham are a very good all-round team and although they don’t score runs particularly quickly they are a patient batting side and they’ll always back themselves to take 20 wickets.”
