Nottinghamshire spinner Graeme Swann will miss the first two one-day internationals against South Africa due to a side strain and will be joined on the sidelines by Stuart Broad.

Kent spinner James Tredwell will fly out to join the injury-hit squad to cover Swann’s absence whilst James Anderson and Graham Onions are also doubts.

Off-spinner Tredwell is uncapped at international level although he was called up to England's one-day squad for the tour of New Zealand last year.

Broad is still struggling with the shoulder problem which forced him to miss the tied two-match Twenty20 series
