Notts duly beat Derbyshire by an innings and 45 runs on the third day at Derby.
 
A more resolute batting display by the home side denied Notts victory until half an hour after lunch, before they were bowled out for 319.
 
Resuming on 158-4, Derbyshire soon lost Whiteley lbw  for 24 to give Andrew Carter his 50th Championship wicket of the season.
 
Scott Elstone then bowled Slater for 30  and caught and bowled Poynton for 34. Bowling in tandem with Jason Brown the pair stifled the scoring rate and with Brown bowling Clare for 1 Derby went into lunch on 238-8.
 
Jake Needham and Ian Hunter came out after lunch determined to go down fighting but Hunter was caught from a skier by Darrin Pattinson for 38 from 27 balls and Mark Footitt only needed one delivery with the new ball to shatter Street's stumps to complete the game. Needham was not out 48, Scott Elstone took 4-72, Jason Brown 2-82 and Mark Footitt 2-38
 
Next week’s matches against Lancashire have been moved from Old Trafford. The Trophy game on Monday will be played at Neston and the three day Championship match will be played at Liverpool.
