Notts Director of Cricket Mick Newell has a shortlist of two potential overseas signings to turn to if the BCCI scupper his move for VVS Laxman.

Laxman had agreed to join Notts in August as a replacement for Adam Voges but the move is in doubt after the BCCI advised their players not to join clubs with players who have performed in the ICL.

"I've spoken to two players and we need to contact them again if he doesn't come,” said Newell.

"We thought we'd done a deal with VVS, and we thought we had permission from the BCCI, but somebody's spotted something and now they want to question the whole deal."

Laxman remains Newell’s preferred candidate for the overseas slot.
