Notts bowler Stuart Broad has been recalled to the England team to face South Africa in the fourth npower Test at The Oval.

Broad will bat at number eight and form a four-pronged pace attack alongside Andrew Flintoff, James Anderson and Steve Harmison.

Ryan Sidebottom is rested and Michael Vaughan has made himself unavailable for selection after electing to take a break from the game following his resignation as England captain.

Former Notts batsman Kevin Pietersen was delighted to welcome Broad back to the fold.

"I like him as a player and a bloke," said Pietersen.

"He's a positive young player who learns quickly. I see a lot of mature signs in him and he brings us extra batting with strength in depth at the bottom of the order."

“I’m going to go with four fast bowlers and Monty. I think it is an aggressive move, a positive move. We need to take 20 wickets in this Test - you need to take 20 in any Test - and I feel a lot more comfortable with four fast bowlers.

“We’ve given responsibility to the batters to score runs with Colly at five, Freddie at six, Timmy at seven and Broad at eight.

“I’m looking forward to getting started.”

New Notts signing Ashwell Prince is expected to retain his place for South Africa.
