Four first class appearances and intermittent outings in 20, 40 and 50-over cricket (he went for 7 an over playing in the Twenty20 Cup against Notts last season) weren’t enough to satisfy his need for first team action and, when Notts came calling, he couldn’t resist.

Winter trips to Australia and India have presented Mullaney with an ideal opportunity to meet his new team mates. Ten days in India and a stint in Australia have allowed him to observe the club’s overseas signings, play substantial club cricket and hone his skills in challenging conditions.

Mullaney graduated the Lancashire academy before signing his first professional contract in 2006. He represented England Under 19s alongside fellow new signing Graeme White in the 2006 World Cup.

He signed a two year deal at Notts having turned down a similar offer from Lancashire.

Mullaney has a first class 165* to his name against Durham UCCE.
